It’s easy for some people to burn it off with an activity of some sort, but not everybody has those coping mechanisms. So what if you’re stressed at work and don’t have an outlet to get that monkey off your back? I have a few tips that help me; maybe they can help you reduce stress at work, too.
Play some music
Sometimes putting on some mellow tunes can relieve stress throughout the day. If you can’t focus with music that has words try some classical or instrumental music. I once made a playlist of the instrumental versions of popular music just to have on, very low in the background. Never underestimate the power of music to reduce your stress.
Take a walk
You might not be able to walk away from your desk during the day or for a long period of time. However, making it a point to walk around to take a mental and physical break can really help you clear your mind and maybe even boost your mood if you need it. Even if you just take 5 minutes to stretch at your desk, that will help release built-up tension in your muscles that you may not even know you had due to stress at work.
Use a Diffuser
I only recommend this if you don’t share your workspace with other people. You don’t want to bother your co-workers by affecting the air they breathe. If you have your own office, though, this can be a great way to reduce stress at work in a natural way. Using an essential oil like lavender or something else that you enjoy, like a citrus smell, can help make your workspace more enjoyable. This will help reduce stress without you even realizing it. You can buy a diffuser that you plug in and mix with water that is safe. Just remember not to leave it plugged in.
Leave for lunch
There are some jobs, and some instances, where this may not be possible. Maybe you don’t have enough time to leave for lunch. Is there a picnic table outside? Is there some way to take an actual lunch break away from your office or workspace? If so, I highly recommend it. Even if you aren’t stressed, getting out of the same atmosphere can help improve your day and make you feel more productive when you return from lunch.
These are just some ideas that may help you relieve stress. There are so many causes of stress and there are many ways to relieve it. If these don’t work for you keep looking until you find something that works. Remember that stress is completely normal and we all need to work toward a healthy mind and body.
