Should you check your spam folder? How often should you check your spam folder?

In my humble opinion, the answer is yes! You should check your spam folder at least every other week so you don’t miss emails from valid senders. One of the big reasons that emails you want go to spam is that spam filtering has become more rigorous. Webmail providers are simply cracking down on spam. However, the filters aren’t 100% accurate, so sometimes legit emails go to spam too.

What can you do about it? You can try adding the sender to your list of contacts, but even then, some of the mail from my contacts have not gotten through. You can whitelist the sender. This will, at least, increase the chance of desire mail reaching your inbox.  For additional tips see our blog “How to White List“ by Tom Moore (February 5, 2017).

I have added preferred senders to my work email as well as my personal email yet, I still have to check my spam folder. One last thing that you can do to increase the likelihood that you will receive the emails you want to receive is to not use email service providers that are considered high risk such as Roadrunner and Comcast.

Although I disagree with how strict or particular some spam filers are, in the end, there’s not much that you can do. We can at least be thankful there is a spam folder that we can check instead of having information never reach you.
